Notation 1: This Andrew Patterson is sometimes confused with another Andrew (Jackson) Patterson whom married and later died in Arkansas or Alabama. The Andrew Patterson, whom I descend from, appears to be from Pennsylvania and by 1840 he went to Illinois where he married twice and died in Scott County, Illinois in 1861.
Notation 2: I got the date of birth from his Find A Grave memorial page and one world tree sites' entries, but referring to Notation 1 about him being confused by some with another Andrew J(ackson) Patterson who lived/married/died in another state - I am not certain if this is his birth date in terms of month, day and year.
Notation 3: Name of child taken from photo of headstone shared on FindAGrave's site.
Notation 4: Possibly had at least two brothers, James and Joseph Patterson. These two males, and one with his wife and daughter, are listed as part of Andrew's household for 1850 Census in Scott County, Illinois.

Time's Passage Leads Us To Now

I started this blog off with "good intentions" of being where I would share parts of my family tree research. I was also hoping to share some of my conclusions derived from my own researching of the various twigs and branches.

Then I got sidetracked ...

Then I remembered about what I wanted to with this blog, and became distracted ...

And now, 3 years later, I came back and decided it's time for me to wipe the dust off this blog space and start to share some posts on it in 2025.

Although I will admit that I am still have some mental debates on "how" to share the content - in terms of aesthetics and layout thoughts in with "how much" and other such mental thoughts that flit through my brain. For now, I may go 'brief' and just let time dictate if I will later revisit some posts to add more info/content or what.

As this blog will be about my family tree research - I will share both Paternal and Maternal sides in the one site as I feel that will be easier, for me, in terms of entering and sharing the content with folks.

To reiterate, from the initial post I shared on this blog, I will try to be respectful of privacy thoughts. This means I will do my best to not share living people in these posts. Which shouldn't be that "big of a deal" as I don't see a need to list living people or to name my DNA matches on this blog ... although perhaps, optimistically, this blog's posts may help have some people look at their own trees or DNA matches, and perhaps decide to inbox me at one of the two sites [Ancestry and MyHeritage], where I share an online tree and my DNA test at, to compare notes or perhaps help share photos [which photos are something I don't have many to share - lost many of my photos in various moves I've done over the past few decades or events like a fire in my mother's home that had many photos go missing or become damaged beyond repair]. On the two sites, I am fond of the membername I use on those sites - so you will not find me by searching for the name Carol although, when I respond to messages on those sites, I will share my name is Carol.

My family tree work has resulted in a large tree as I included the siblings of my direct ancestors. So, for my great-grandfathers on the paternal and maternal sides, I have also listed their siblings and those siblings's spouses. I also include any additional spouses for a person, even if the a marriage did not result in children - and, yes, I will also add my direct ancestor's siblings's children and their children. Which this adds up over time ... and right now my family tree has a head count of over 45,000 people listed in it.

Do I plan on sharing all 45,000-plus folks on this blog? As of today, no - not enough days in the week or weeks in a year for me to do that. I mean, let's be honest, I wouldn't be able to research my tree further/work on DNA matches or do some of my relaxing hobbies (like crocheting) ... and I don't want this blog site to "feel like it's too much work" either. I will start off with those considered being my Direct Ancestors - so x-time great-grandparents down to grandparents on my maternal and paternal sides. After I share those individuals in posts, I will likely start sharing some of the direct ancestors siblings in their own posts (but perhaps in "no particular order" either, but just to help share about some of those I've also researched.

In the posts on this site I will share about DNA matching thoughts as Notations versus as a Source - even though in my family tree file I added DNA matching as a source for my DNA match (if I added the DNA match to my tree file). I figure if I shared DNA matching as a source, then that may include sharing the name of the DNA match as part of the source information - which could conflict with my prior shared thought about respecting privacy of living people. Some of my DNA matches I know are deceased since they've done a DNA test - however, I think sharing about DNA matching thoughts as notation versus source may be better approach for now.

That all being said ... let's see how this goes in 2025!
